Denmark combines a solid hockey scene with bicycle culture, innovative design, and a society that consistently ranks at the top for quality of life. Copenhagen's urban cool meets charming coastal towns, and the work-life balance here is something North Americans often find refreshing.

It's a bit smaller hockey nation compared to the rest of Scandinavia, but the quality of life makes it extremely appealing.

Ex-pat Friendliness:

Danes speak excellent English- they may speak it better than you. While learning a bit of Danish helps with deeper integration, import players find it easy to navigate daily life and connect with teammates. Danish people joke that talking in the native language is "like talking with a hot potato in your mouth" due to the heavy vowel use and sounds- just learn some basics as best to start out and you'll be fine. Our players all loved playing here.

Cost of Living:

High End
The cost of living in Denmark is definitely higher than the average, but the quality is also super high. Players here don't need to worry about costs of housing/utilities/transportation as the clubs they pay for will cover these during the season.

Weather/Climate:

Scandinavian Moderate
Temperate maritime with mild winters (32-40°F/0-4°C) and cool summers (64-72°F/18-22°C). Less snow than other Nordic countries but can be windy and rainy.

Proximity of Travel:

Nordic Explorer

Sweden, Germany, and Norway are conveniently close.

Copenhagen then serves as a passage to Scandinavia and the Baltics.

Hockey Culture:

Established

Denmark has a smaller but very strong hockey scene. It's a slightly smaller market compared to the Scandinavian neighbors, but the hockey is competitive and the sport has a dedicated following.

Leagues

The main two leagues in Denmark are Metal Ligaen and 1st Division which also goes by Denmark2.

Denmark also has youth and junior tiers that go up to the U20 level.
